The Elgar Piano Quintet is a work that holds special significance for the musicians of the English Symphony Orchestra, who gave the world premiere of Donald Fraser’s acclaimed orchestration of the work in 2015. That performance was acclaimed by Classical Music Magazine as a Premiere of the Year in 2015, and the ensuing CD on Avie records was a Classic FM Disc of the Month.
For this concert, the principal players of the ESO offer the original version of Elgar’s masterpiece alongside the world premiere of Elcock’s Quintet, written for the unusual combination of violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano.
