A celebration of women’s music and the female voice
Corra Sound is a recently established group of singers with a love for performing, discovering new repertoire and celebrating the works of remarkably talented and often little known female composers.
Comprising a blend of voices, we each have our own story to tell, but share a passion for music written by and for women, exploring the reach and versatility of the female voice.
Individually, we have performed with a plethora of choirs and ensembles, performing countless works, and yet, just a tiny minority of those have been written by women. As Corra Sound, our mission is to bring many works of truly phenomenal female composers out of the shadows and into the spotlight. Today’s concert presents a unique celebration of predominantly British musicians who compositional voices deserve to be heard more widely.
From the creative genius of Ruth Gipps to the undeniably beautiful melodies of Sarah Quartel, from the great power of Ethel Smyth to the exquisitely crafted Eleanor Daley, from the remarkable talent of Rebecca Clarke to the joyous humour of Joanna Forbes L’Estrange – we long to celebrate these remarkable works with you.
Gaining a reputation for high quality performance across a wide range of repertoire, Corra Sound is performing at The Elgar Festival for the very first time. Join us for a whirlwind tour of vocal intrigue, blending well-known with little-known choral repertoire from the last two decades.
