YOUNG SINGERS MASTERCLASS DAY

In a new festival event for 2025, this free public masterclass held in the inspirational surroundings of Elgar’s Birthplace offers observers a chance to watch 6 talented young singers work with April Fredrick, Affiliate Artist of the English Symphony Orchestra, and Ian Venables, a composer hailed as Britain’s greatest living composer of art songs. Learn the secrets of the singers’ craft, see how a composer brings text to life, and explore the amazing relationship between singer and collaborative pianist.

 

Masterclass is from 11am – 1pm with a performance by all 6 singers after lunch at 2pm

 

Auditions are open to young singers aged 18 -25. Singers wishing to participate are asked to submit a covering letter and video recording of the song of their choice they wish to study to singforjoy@gmail.com

 

Repertoire should be by Ian Venables, Elgar, or an English Art Song composer and the closing date for entries is Friday 4 April 2025.

 

There is no charge to participate.

Little Al’s Café at The Firs will be open for drinks and lunches and the Birthplace Museum will also be open – entry charges to Elgar’s Cottage apply.
