The Jenny Lind Singers
The Jenny Lind Singers is a group of talented local female singers, some semi-professional, who are sensitive and passionate performers. They present several concerts a year, including recently Britten’s Ceremony of Carols at Christmas. They love exploring new music, especially by women and local composers, and the award-winning composer Liz Dilnot Johnson who has been commissioned to compose a new work for this concert to celebrate Elgar’s birthday.
The group is named after the renowned ‘Swedish Nightingale’, who lived in Malvern for the latter part of her life and was a well-known benefactor of education and the arts. The Singers were founded in the 1970’s at Malvern Girls’ College by the Head of Music and Elaine Hugh-Jones. They were re-founded in 2013 by Lynne Lindner, then Director of Music at Malvern St James Girls’ School, at the invitation of the Malvern Civic Society, and are now in their twelfth year.
