COME AND PLAY ELGAR 1

Saturday 17 May @ 10am – 5pm
Joe Davies, Associate Conductor, English Symphony Orchestra
St Martin’s Church, London Road, Worcester, WR5 2ED
Following the success of our last Come and Play event, we’re once more welcoming amateur musicians from all over the country for a day of rehearsals and an informal performance. This year it’s the turn of Elgar’s 1st Symphony, full of incredible melodies and breathtaking drama.
Come and Play welcomes musicians of all ages to experience the joys and challenges of Elgar’s symphonic writing in an enjoyable and relaxed environment. English Symphony Orchestra musicians will be on hand to give coaching and encouragement throughout the day.
Directed by the ESO’s associate conductor Joe Davies, the day culminates in an informal play through for family and friends at 4pm.
‘I really enjoyed it, a rare opportunity for amateur players to play a very challenging piece – and a challenge for me personally playing 1st bassoon! Great to play alongside some very accomplished professional players and have their input in the sectional rehearsal! Well done all the organisers for your hard work and to Michael KY for the superb conducting and directing!’
Previous experience of this work is not essential, and there’s no need to audition, but we recommend that applicants are Grade 7+ or equivalent standard.
Please tell us a little bit about your orchestral experience on the application form.
All applications are processed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and payment will be requested once your application is accepted.

Tickets: £25 (adults), including tea/coffee/cakes throughout the day
Admission by pre-booked ticket only. Closing date Fri 2 May 2025
Under 18’s are free but places still need to be booked and participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult (also free, unless also applying to perform)
