Young Winds Masterclass

Held in the inspirational surroundings of Elgar’s Birthplace, this free event offers 6 talented young wind players the opportunity work with Laura Jellicoe, professor of flute at the Royal Academy of Music, focusing on technique and interpretation. All players and their families will also have free access to Elgar’s cottage and gardens during their visit.

Masterclass session is from 11am – 1pm with a performance by all players after lunch at 2pm and both sessions are open to the public

How to apply

Auditions are open to players of all wind instruments aged 13+ and of Grade 6 standard or higher. Players wishing to participate are asked to submit a covering letter and video recording of the piece they wish to study to sue@elgarfestival.org. Repertoire should ideally be by a British composer

Any students accepted who are under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/carer throughout the day.  

There is no charge to participate. Free entry also to observers throughout the masterclass and for the afternoon culmination.

Little Al’s Café at The Firs will be open for drinks and lunches.
