Jiaxin Lloyd Webber

Jiaxin Lloyd Webber was born in Shanghai and graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1997 before leaving China for further studies in New Zealand, where she received her Master’s Degree at Auckland University in 2001.

In New Zealand, Jiaxin was principal cello of the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, a founder member of the Aroha String Quartet and a regular performer with both the Auckland Philharmonia and New Zealand Symphony Orchestras. She performed major cello concertos including works by Dvořák, Elgar, Lalo, and Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra.

Jiaxin and Julian met in 2000 when he was on a concert tour of New Zealand and they married in 2009. Now resident in the UK, Jiaxin performs regularly with Julian and as a soloist. Together they have performed for BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, CNN Global TV, and BBC TV, with their recordings for Universal Classics and Naxos chosen as Record of the Month by both Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine.

The couple have developed several collaborative concert programmes, including “A Tale of Two Cellos” featuring arrangements for two cellos, and “Bach Explained,” where Julian narrates the fascinating story behind Bach’s iconic cello suites while Jiaxin performs them. They continue to tour together, sharing their passion for cello music and stories from their lives in one of music’s most influential families.
